Vajrasana (yoga)
Vajrasana (Sanskrit: वज्रासन; IAST: vajrāsana), adamantine pose,[1][2][3][4] diamond pose,[1][2][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] kneeling pose,[1][12][13] pelvic pose,[1][14] and thunderbolt pose[1][5][10][15][16][17] is an asana.
Etymology
The name comes from the Sanskrit words vajra meaning "thunderbolt" or "diamond",[18] and asana (आसन, āsana) meaning "posture" or "seat".[19]
Description
The practitioner sits on the heels with the calves beneath the thighs. There is a four finger gap between the knee-caps, and the first toe of both the feet touch each other.
Contraindications and cautions
Vajrasana may be harmful to knees, some orthopaedic surgeons claim.[20]
